Master key system
We highly recommend implementing a master key system at your office or place of work. They can be installed on anything from doors to lockers and cabinets, and they provide many different benefits:
- First and foremost, this type of system provides varying levels of access to different people. For example, the owner can have the grand master key that accesses every lock in the office. The managers receive sub master keys that open 99% of the locks, and employees can be given keys with more limited access.
- Maintenance keys are given to custodians and maintenance people for after hours access to specific areas within the facility.
- In the event of an emergency, or employee lockout, the manager or owner can still access every room in the facility.
- In the event of a termination, the entire office does not need to be rekeyed. Rather, only the specific areas accessible by that employee’s keys are impacted.
This system is great in wide variety of applications:
- Apartment buildings can use this system so that the superintendent or landlord has a master key. With a master key the landlord can access any unit when necessary. This is especially helpful if the tenant moves out without returning the keys. However, it is important to specify in the rental agreement that the tenant is not permitted to change the locks. Otherwise there is not benefit to using a master lock system.
- Restaurants, hotels and other business with a high turnover in employees can utilize the master key system. This will save a lot of money in the long run because less rekeying will be required.
- Schools ad camps will particularly benefit from this system because volunteers, teachers, administrators and custodial staff can all be granted various levels of access.
